Do you remember the first time you fell in love with music? Before the money people moved in and your favorite scene lost its innocence and became a tired formula? Grossberger does, 'coz he's a bit of an old sod. But with this mix he hopes to cast a spell so that the next (r)evolution in music and culture doesn't get co-opted so easily by the Man!
In 2006 Grossberger went to the Detroit Electronic Music Festival for the first time, and was generally underwhelmed by the festival itself. But the two afterparties he was lucky enough to attend completely changed his life. This mix is a tribute to Rick Wilhite, Delano Smith, Norm Talley, Jus-Ed, and the other great dj’s and people he met during the Colonel Abrams birthday party and the Detroit Beatdown party the following night. The tracks in this mix mostly came out afterward, but the vibe is the same.
What if “starseedtransmission” was only half the signal? What if the message !glrnaap received (via a powerful blast of energy whilst in a mushroom induced trance in Allerton State Park) had been filtered somehow as it passed through the wormhole? Or, perhaps like in the movie “Contact” the codex or key to deciphering the message was traveling along with the original signal but at a different frequency? In such an alternate reality maybe !glrnaap, having heard the yin and the yang, would have been sustained in their mission and gone on to conquer the multiverse!!! And along the way, would have traveled back in time to share the full vision with Philip K. Dick, Timothy Leary, and others. Grossberger reaches into his archives and submits to you now his conception of how “starseedtransmission” might have turned out…
...back for a limited time. Re-posted in honor of that baaaad muthaf---a, John "Skip" Perkins, Jr., this episode is Grossberger's musical love letter to the twin cities...Chicago and Detroit!
